DEVASSES Researchers Meet in Florence
The first year of the DEVASSES project is now complete.
The UNIFI hosted a Face-to-Face Meeting in Florence for the project researchers to review the activities of this first year and plan for the future. The review of 2014 was focused on discussing the past and ongoing secondments, the results achieved, and what could be the future improvements.
As usual, the meeting included researchers from all partners of the project. The newcomers presented themselves to the remaining project team, with special focus on the UFAL team that brings new people and expertise to the consortium.
There was the opportunity to advertise the RADIANCE workshop initiative and discuss potential future collaborations, including open project calls. An important part of the meeting was the discussion of the status and the future steps on each of the active Work Packages including the ones that already presented some deliverables and the ones that are on a planning phase.
For the night of the first day of the meeting it was planned a Team-Building dinner that, besides great Tuscan food, included a visit to roof and the great view over the night of Florence (see photo above).
Strategically spread between the other sessions, there were three sessions of an internal Transfer of Knowledge Workshop with a total 7 presentations. In those sessions, the project researchers showcased their recent and ongoing research work, with 3 of the presentations being on joint initiatives. Bellow follows the titles of the presentations:

The new year brought new seconded researchers to UNIFI!
Ariadne Carvalho and Cecilia Rubira are now in Firenze, working together with UNIFI researchers at the Resilient Computing Lab. Ariadne and Cecilia are professors at the Institute of Computing of the University of Campinas (IC-UNICAMP) and both will seconded during a one month period.
On January 15th and 16th two sessions of presentations took place, in which Ariadne and Cecilia introduced to UNIFI researchers some of the most recent works that are being performed by their research groups.
Cecilia presented works related to Software Product Lines (SPL) in the context of fault-tolerant and self-adaptive systems, including a case study in e-Commerce domain.
Ariadne presented works on techniques for authorship attribution on micro-messages and preliminary work on "Information and Emotion Extraction from Micro-blogs for Stock Market Prediction".
The presentations were the opportunity to start discussions between UNIFI and UNICAMP researchers, which will be carried on during the secondment period.
The secondment period will also be the opportunity to work on the project deliverables, and plan collaboration work, and future researcher secondments to Campinas. Finally, the secondment will allow to cement the ongoing collaborations between UNIFI and UNICAMP.
It is time for the first Secondment in Coimbra!
The first researcher seconded to the University of Coimbra has just arrived. Regina Moraes is in Coimbra to fulfill a 2-month secondment working with the DEVASSES team of the UC. Regina is a Full Professor at the School of Technology of the University of Campinas (FT-UNICAMP).
Regina will present in the next weeks the work that her groups has been developing at the UNICAMP. This presentation will be done in the context of the regular seminars of CISUC-SSE group, which usually attracts a broad audience of local professors, researchers and students.
During the secondment period there will be opportunity to work on the project deliverables and also discuss and plan the future early stage researcher secondments that will come to Coimbra.
The secondment will also be useful for the progress and planning of the ongoing work with local researchers, including the works of her students: Tânia Basso is co-advised together with Marco Vieira or even the works of Ana Paula that is currently collaborating with Nuno Antunes.
Finally, the secondment will allow to cement the ongoing collaborations between UC and UNICAMP, searching for funding opportunities for the medium/long term, namely the future Europe-Brazil ICT.
Thaís Harumi Ussami’s secondment with UNIFI
The secondment of Thaís Harumi Ussami at the University of Firenze is underway. She arrived in the beginning of October and she will stay until March, fulfilling 6 months of secondment.
Thaís is coming from Campinas – SP, Brazil, where she is an MSc student under the supervision of Prof. Eliane Martins at the UNICAMP. Although they are still working on the definition of her research topic, she is currently researching approaches for the automated generation of tests using techniques related to model based testing and behavior driven development, which will guide the agile development of the systems.
On October 20, she had a talk in which she introduced her topic and presented some of her work to UNIFI researchers. Basically, she is now working on a new agile technique that uses the benefits of model based testing to create test cases that will guide the incremental development. State machines are used to represent the system's behavior, so they will be used as documentation as well as the model from which test cases will be derived. Also, they will be used to validate the system’s behavior with the client.
Several UNIFI professors, researchers and students attended the meeting, which besides presenting Thaís’ work, also had the goals of discussion of the tasks for the secondment and find the researchers more suited to collaborate with her.
